Backend Java Developer
We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join us at Telia and help build Telia Play. I’m Mindaugas Jaras, Head of Tech for Sales and Onboarding, and I’m searching for someone ready to grow with us. Telia Play is a unified TV and streaming product serving customers across Sweden, Finland, and Norway. What you'll do You will design, build, and operate cloud-native backend services that power critical Telia Play product journeys. • Design and build scalable backend services. Develop, improve, and maintain Java and Spring Boot microservices supporting onboarding, purchases, subscriptions, content access, and other core capabilities.• Shape architecture and integrations. Design resilient and secure distributed solutions, REST APIs, and integrations, while contributing to architectural decisions and engineering standards.• Build and operate cloud-native solutions. Deploy and run services on AWS using technologies such as EKS, ECS, EC2, S3, Lambda, and RDS, together with Kubernetes, Helm, and Docker.• Drive engineering excellence and delivery. Collaborate across the product organization, promote clean and testable code, improve CI/CD and observability, support less-experienced engineers, and take ownership through production operation. What will help you to thrive in this role You combine strong backend engineering expertise with clear technical reasoning, collaboration, and end-to-end ownership. • Proven backend development experience. At least five years of professional experience, primarily with modern Java, ideally Java 21 or later, and strong hands-on knowledge of Spring Boot, Spring Security, REST APIs, data access, and service integration.• Strong cloud-native engineering skills. Practical experience building and operating solutions in AWS, using Docker, Kubernetes, ideally Amazon EKS, and Helm.• Solid distributed-systems knowledge. A good understanding of microservices, event-driven integration patterns, software security, automated testing, observability, reliability, and performance.• Delivery and collaboration mindset. Experience with CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitHub Actions, and the ability to analyse complex technical problems, communicate your reasoning clearly, and own solutions from design to production.
