The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Executive Associate Athletics Director, Business & Finance [R0153096]

ROLE of the POSITION

The Executive Associate Athletics Director for Business and Finance provides executive leadership for the fiscal management, budgeting, and business operations of UNLV Athletics. Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Financial Services & Controller, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Director of Athletics, this position serves as a member of the Athletics Executive Leadership Team and plays a critical role in shaping the department's financial strategy, operational priorities, and long-term success.

Working collaboratively with the Director of Athletics, UNLV Chief Financial Officer, UNLV Controller, coaches, and campus leadership, the Executive Associate Athletics Director develops, implements, and oversees the department's annual operating budget, long-range financial planning, and day-to-day business operations. The position provides strategic financial analysis and guidance to support informed decision-making while ensuring responsible stewardship of university resources. The position also oversees cash management, financial reporting, contract administration, and fiscal forecasting to ensure the department's continued financial health and sustainability.

The Executive Associate Athletics Director leads all business and financial operations in accordance with university, state, NCAA, Mountain West Conference, and other applicable policies and regulations. The position is responsible for maintaining strong internal controls, minimizing audit risk, ensuring compliance with applicable financial standards, and continuously evaluating business processes to improve operational efficiency, customer service, and organizational effectiveness.

As a senior leader within the department, the Executive Associate Athletics Director will collaborate across athletics and the university on strategic initiatives, institutional committees, and cross-functional projects that advance the mission of UNLV Athletics. The position serves as the department's primary liaison with key university financial and administrative offices, including Budget, Financial Services, Purchasing, Foundation, and other campus partners. The position offers opportunities for professional growth through participation in NCAA, NACDA, Mountain West Conference, and university leadership programs and committees.

The Executive Associate Athletics Director provides leadership and supervision for the Athletics Business Office, fostering a culture of accountability, customer service, continuous improvement, and professional development while ensuring the efficient and compliant delivery of financial operations.

Based on departmental needs and the successful candidate's experience, the Executive Associate Athletics Director may also serve as a sport administrator, providing executive oversight and strategic support to assigned sport programs while fostering collaboration among coaches, student-athletes, and campus partners.

The successful candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles, financial management, budgeting, compliance, and internal controls, including GAAP, GASB, and applicable federal, state, university, and NCAA regulations.

The position requires demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience, exceptional analytical and strategic planning skills, and the ability to interpret complex policies, manage multiple priorities, and make sound financial decisions in a dynamic environment. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, proficiency with financial systems and Microsoft Office applications, and a commitment to integrity, confidentiality, and collaborative leadership are essential.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business management or related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or a Masters Degree preferred. And, 8+ years of related professional work experience, that includes progressively responsible experience in the areas of financial accounting and reporting, cash management and budgeting finance and administration or related. And, 5-7 years supervisory experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in good standing.

Experience working in a university or college athletics environment.
