Job Description

Position Purpose

The Territorial Health and Safety Manager role exists to oversee the day-to-day management of The Salvation Army’s Territorial Health and Safety Program, ensuring a consistent, compliant, and effective approach to health and safety across diverse jurisdictions in Canada. Reporting to the Territorial Director of Health, Safety and Wellbeing, the role is responsible for supporting developing policies, standards, processes, and training programs that support legislative compliance and promote a safe and healthy work environment.

By providing expert guidance, coaching, and client service to leaders and employees, the role helps mitigate risk, strengthen organizational accountability, and foster a culture of safety. This contribution supports The Salvation Army’s mission by protecting its people, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enabling safe and effective service delivery across the organization.

Key Accountabilities

Support the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Territorial Health and Safety Program, ensuring consistent application of policies, procedures, and standards across the organization.

Monitor legislative and regulatory changes across jurisdictions and lines of business, updating programs and policies to maintain compliance and minimize organizational risk.

Oversee the execution of portfolio initiatives, timelines, and communication plans to ensure effective, timely, and sustainable program delivery.

Provide subject matter expertise on health and safety matters, supporting the design of business processes, systems, and solutions that strengthen program effectiveness.

Establish performance measures, metrics, and reporting frameworks to assess program success, identify trends, and support data-driven decision-making.

Evaluate program and service effectiveness through qualitative and quantitative analysis, recommending improvements that enhance compliance, safety outcomes, and operational performance.
