Our commitment to employment equity helps achieve inclusion and fairness, brings rich diversity to UBC as a workplace, and creates the necessary conditions for a rewarding career. Job SummaryThe Open Resource Centre for Assessments (ORCA) allows students to take digital assessments in a flexible and secure way using physical computers, network filtering, reservation software, and trained invigilators. An ORCA invigilator is someone that prides themselves on being extremely reliable, professional, and dependable (particularly in rare crisis situations). Though the duties of an invigilator sound "easy" because no content knowledge is required, it is a position that requires significant mental fortitude, attention to detail, and most importantly, good judgement. Invigilator assignments are usually made collaboratively in response to the needs of courses in the ORCA, and invigilator availability. Organizational StatusThe ORCA Invigilators will report to the ORCA Manager.The ORCA is usually open 6-7 days a week from 10 AM to 9 PM - availability during this period is critical. Each invigilator will likely be assigned “regular shifts” which will be repeating and consistent for each academic term, and additional shifts will be assigned on a weekly basis by availability.Work PerformedORCA invigilators will: Check students in as they arrive to write their test by verifying their identity. Assist students who are experiencing technical difficulties with ORCA equipment. Report technical issues on the appropriate Slack channel. Supervise the students in the ORCA and watch for academic misconduct. Submit a report to the ORCA Director and/or Administrative Coordinator when academic misconduct is suspected. Assist with information collection and synthesis when academic misconduct is suspected. Ensure the ORCA testing rooms are comfortable, clean, and tidy places for students to be writing exams, at the direction of ORCA staff. Assist with beta-testing new software, hardware, polici...
