The Patient Care Tech/Nursing Assistant role can include one-on-one care of patients on suicide or safety precautions.Successful candidate MUST BE able to attend required orientation classes during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm for the first 2 weeks. These classes are mandatory! 10 West is a 28 bed Medical-Surgical unit primarily consists of the geriatric population with a wide range of medical diagnoses. Together we work as a team to ensure the needs of our patients are met. The care we provide includes assistance with activities of daily living and maintaining a safe and comfortable space to heal as our patients transition home or to skilled-care facilities.This position is part time, working the day shift with every other weekend and rotating holidaysAs part of the health care team, the Patient Care Technician performs basic clerical and technical clinical services relating to the care, cleanliness, safety, and comfort for patients of all ages. Provides quality service through a team oriented, collaborative approach to patient care.Provides basic nursing care and performs advanced technical skills for specified age groups according to established standards. Assists patients with activities of daily living. Appropriately documents and reports patient observations to licensed staff.Transports patients, supplies, specimens, equipment, etc. within the facility. Contributes to Carilion Clinic’s performance improvement activities. Actively participates in obtaining desired service line/departmental outcomes.Exhibits competent knowledge of EMR and assists with chart audits.Participates in unit quality surveillance activitiesActively participate in unit shared governance and/or organization councils/committeesMay lead unit huddle; participate in IDR's (unit based interdepartmental patient rounds)Provides support for department/unit staff scheduling, including covering lunch assignments.Reviews medical record for outstanding orders and notifies nurse of stat orders and medication changes.
