If you thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment and are excited to make a meaningful impact, we want to hear from you.WHAT WILL YOU DO?Reporting to the Manager, Payroll & Total Rewards, the Payroll & Benefits Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll and administration of employee benefits programs. This role ensures compliance with applicable payroll legislation, company policies, Collective Bargaining Agreement, and benefit plan requirements while providing exceptional support to employees and stakeholders regarding payroll, pension, and benefits-related inquiries.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESPayroll AdministrationProcess bi-weekly unionized hourly and salary payroll accurately and on scheduleCalculate and validate regular earnings, overtime, shift premiums, standby pay, call-in pay, retroactive pay, and other collective agreement provisionsProcess employee status changes, promotions, temporary assignments, leaves of absence, and terminationsEnsure payroll deductions, earnings, taxable benefits, and statutory remittances are processed correctlyAudit payroll transactions and reports to identify and resolve discrepanciesAdminister payroll deductions including taxes, benefits, pension contributions, union dues, garnishments, and voluntary deductionsPrepare and submit payroll-related government filings and remittances, including income tax, CPP/QPP, EI, garnishments, and other statutory deductionsEnsure compliance with employment standards, tax legislation, collective agreements, and organizational policiesMaintain accurate payroll records and support documentation for audit purposesValidate overtime eligibility, vacation balances, sick leave, and other absence entitlements.Collaborate with managers to resolve timekeeping issuesSupport year-end payroll activities, including T4s, pension reporting, and auditsBenefits AdministrationAdminister employee benefit programs, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, wellness, pension and retirement savings plansCoordinate employee enrollments, changes, terminations, and beneficiary updatesLiaise with benefit carriers, pension providers, and third-party vendors to resolve issues and ensure accurate plan administrationMonitor employee eligibility and maintain accurate benefits recordsOrganize employee benefit awareness/education sessions and support employee communicationsAssist employees with benefits-related inquiries and claims issuesCompliance and ReportingEnsure compliance with federal, provincial, and local payroll and employment legislationMaintain confidentiality and security of employee informat...
