This position operates base radios, answers telephones, and monitors alarm systems and closed circuit TV screens. This position is also responsible for relaying radio/telephone communications, and monitoring the department's record systems. Must be open and available to work weekends & holidays and must be available to work all shifts.PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIESReceives requests for public safety assistance which may require police, fire or medical assistance; provides dispatching and related services for all field unitsOperates the base station radio and dispatches officers and other University service units to assignments; relays messages by radio or telephone to and from officers, other service units of the University and agencies outside of the UniversityPrepares and maintains the communications log which includes telephone service requests and other notifications for services; processes confidential materials/crime reportsMonitors alarm systems and closed circuit TV screens, maintains the record systems of the department; maintains and issues equipment used by field personnelTypes, files input and retrieves data on personal computers; aides and directs visitors to appropriate locations; prepares information research for monthly reports on overall departmental activityPerforms other duties as assignedKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESVerbal and written communication skillsInterpersonal/human relations skillsExcellent typing skillsAbility to satisfactorily complete of an annual in-service training programAbility to demonstrate physical and psychological fitnessAbility to speak clearly and distinctlyAbility to react calmly during emergency situations in order to relay information to appropriate personnelAbility to extract data from conversation and documentsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh School Diploma or the equivalentOne year of experience in a position requiring high interaction with the publicRequires passing of background check and drug screening upon hire and throughout employment.WAGE$20.00 per hourFunctionPublic Safety - OtherScheduled Weekly Hours:40Saint Louis University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
