We have an opening for a Radiological Operations Manager to coordinate activities, develop supporting processes, and monitor effectiveness of the National Ignition Facility (NIF) radiological protection and regulatory compliance. You will be responsible for ensuring the flow-down and the implementation of institutional policies and programs in the NIF organizations, facilities, and activities, will serve as a the NIF point of contact (POC) for Rad/Hazardous Materials programs, and provide consultative advice using leading-edge principles, technologies, and best practices. This position is within the Directorate Operations Organization in the National Ignition Facility &Photon Science (NIF&PS) Principal Associate Directorate.This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.You will Lead a team of NIF-assigned radiological experts within NIF Radiological Operations including Radiation Control Technicians(RCTs), Radiation Safety Officers (RSOs), health physicists, nuclear engineers, and radiation transport/modeling experts.Manage the team contribution of indirect support radiological programs, including waste management, dosimetry, environmental/emissions support, and the Radiological Protection Functional Area.Demonstrate responsibilities as Rad Ops Section Lead, within the National Ignition Facility (NIF) site operations, by actively responding to emergent issues, maintaining 24-7 operations support, and assuring radiological safety standards are maintained at the highest level while supporting overall facility efficiency and effectiveness.Develop and manage compliance with NIF’s Tier 2 Safety Basis Document (SBD). This includes independently evaluating NIF actions against the SBD and assuring that NIF actions remain within NEPA and the Site-Wide Environmental Impact Statement (SWEIS), or managing modifications therein.Partner with the ES&H Integrated Safety Team (IST) Team Lead to manage the NIF contribution of a team of safety experts supporting the NIF&PS IST exercising judgement in  developing methods and implementation of the NIF radiological safety program objectives.Establish functional and auditable processes (documented within procedures) to manage a wide variety of hazardous material use (H-3, Pu, Du, HEU, Be, TATB, etc.).
