Position Summary:Kemper is a publicly traded, multi-billion-dollar insurance and financial services company, and we are seeking a talented and motivated accounting professional to join our SEC & Financial Reporting team at our headquarters in downtown Chicago. This is a fantastic role for a strong performer who is looking to greatly expand their knowledge within a multi-faceted insurance company (P&C, Life) that has exposure to financial reporting under SEC, GAAP, Statutory, and ERISA accounting frameworks. Kemper has a proven track record for developing its people for higher roles within the department as well as other functions and across its operating entities. We seek a detail-oriented professional to assist with a wide range of monthly, quarterly and annual accounting functions associated with Kemper’s financial reporting.Position Responsibilities:Prepare, own, and distribute the monthly & quarterly close calendar to ensure the GAAP financial close is completed timely and accuratelyManage all consolidation related processes for the US GAAP close including intercompany, inter and Intra-segment eliminations, and suspense account analysisResponsible for preparation of the consolidated balance sheet, income statement, and statement of equity as well as and segment level income statements and exhibits on operating expensesPreparation of the Statement of Cash Flows that includes working with multiple different departments including Tax, Investments, and Treasury, as well as P&C, Life, and Corporate AccountingPreparation and review of the Financial SupplementPrepare, understand and distribute all non-GAAP Income StatementsWork with internal and external auditors to provide necessary supportActively identify, lead, manage, and complete process improvement projectsPosition Requirements: BA/BS degree in AccountingCPA preferred10+ years of experience in accounting. Insurance experience is a plusExperience in running general ledger consolidations and preparation of financial statements, previously preparation of the statement of cash flows a plusFamiliarity with US GAAP requirements, familiarity with statutory accounting principles is a plusExperience in Workday Financial Management and Workiva WDesk a strong plusExperience navigating a large ERP environmentProficiency in MS Office prod...
