Safety Worxs is seeking an experienced Site Safety Manager to support a major underground tunnel construction project in New York City. This is a senior field leadership position responsible for driving the project's safety culture while partnering directly with project management, client representatives, and subcontractors to ensure the safe execution of complex underground construction activities. The Safety Lead will serve as the primary safety resource for assigned work areas, providing technical expertise, mentoring site safety personnel, and leading proactive risk management efforts throughout all phases of tunnel construction. This role requires a strong field presence, exceptional leadership skills, and extensive experience managing safety on heavy civil and underground infrastructure projects. Responsibilities Lead all day-to-day health and safety operations for assigned tunnel construction activities. Champion a proactive safety culture by providing visible field leadership and coaching craft personnel, supervisors, and subcontractors. Partner with project leadership to integrate safety into daily planning, scheduling, and execution of work. Conduct comprehensive field inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards before work begins. Oversee compliance with OSHA regulations, NYC DOB requirements, client specifications, and project-specific safety programs. Review and approve Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), lift plans, work permits, and engineered safety controls. Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action development while ensuring timely documentation and follow-up. Coordinate emergency response planning, rescue preparedness, evacuation drills, and confined space rescue procedures. Mentor Safety Coordinators and provide technical guidance to project supervision on regulatory compliance and industry best practices. Facilitate orientations, leadership safety meetings, toolbox talks, and specialized safety training. Analyze safety performance metrics, identify trends, and implement continuous improvement initiatives. Participate in owner, client, regulatory agency, and subcontractor safety meetings. Maintain accurate safety documentation, inspection reports, training records, and compliance reporting. Serve as the primary field liaison during safety inspections, audits, and regulatory visits. Qualifications 10+ years of construction safety experience ideally supporting heavy civil, tunnel, underground, transit, transportation, or major infrastructure construction projects. Active NYC DOB 62-Hour Supervisor SST Card (Required). Extensive knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926). Demonstrated experience managing safety for complex underground construction operations.
