Exein raised $270 million at a $1.7 billion valuation, led by Headline.
Why it matters: The round gives the Rome-based cybersecurity startup fresh capital to expand beyond Europe and push into physical AI security. It also adds another large late-stage deal to Europe’s startup market, with public-backed investors participating.
- Exein announced the round on Sept. 15, 2026, and said the company was valued at $1.7 billion.
- Headline led the financing, which also included Sofina, Goldman Sachs, the EIB Group and EIF via ETCI, KfW Capital and T.Capital.
- Exein said it will use the money for US and Asia-Pacific expansion, acquisitions and product development.
- The company says it protects about two billion devices and sees about 5,000 new non-repetitive attacks a week.
Exein said Monday it raised $270 million at a $1.7 billion valuation in a round led by Headline.
The Rome-based startup said the money will fund expansion in the US and Asia-Pacific, acquisitions, hiring and product development for a security layer aimed at robots, drones, vehicles and other AI-enabled machines.
The round also included Sofina, Goldman Sachs, the EIB Group and EIF through the European Tech Champions Initiative, KfW Capital and T.Capital. In a separate statement, the European Investment Fund said the deal marked its first direct co-investment under ETCI and called Exein Europe’s newest cybersecurity unicorn.
Exein founder and CEO Gianni Cuozzo said the company is focused on security for what it calls physical AI, as more computing moves into devices that operate in the real world.
The company says it now protects about two billion devices and detects about 5,000 new non-repetitive attacks a week.
SecurityWeek also reported that total funding now tops $600 million, while TechCrunch said the valuation has more than doubled since a December 2025 financing.
