FedEx ordered 2,000 electric trucks from Harbinger in a deal worth more than $300 million.

Why it matters: The order is a major commercial test for Harbinger and demand for medium-duty electric fleets. It also gives the startup a large customer as it scales production.

  • Harbinger plans to build and deliver all 2,000 trucks by Dec. 31, 2027.
  • The vehicles will support FedEx pickup-and-delivery operations in the United States and Canada.
  • FedEx previously ordered 53 Harbinger trucks in November 2025 and co-led the startup's $160 million Series C, according to Axios.
  • A Nov. 26, 2025 Axios report said Harbinger was weighing an IPO and working with Goldman Sachs.

FedEx is buying 2,000 all-electric medium-duty trucks from Harbinger in a deal valued at more than $300 million, according to Harbinger's Sept. 30, 2026 announcement.

Harbinger plans to produce and deliver the vehicles by Dec. 31, 2027, roughly 15 months after the Sept. 30, 2026 announcement. The trucks will be used in FedEx pickup-and-delivery operations across the United States and Canada. The companies did not disclose the mix of models, body configurations, battery sizes or route assignments.

Harbinger said the trucks will replace conventional vehicles one-for-one. The company estimates that each electric truck will reduce fuel costs by about $20,000 a year, according to the same announcement. A simple multiplication of that estimate by 2,000 trucks produces roughly $40 million in potential annual savings; it is not a guaranteed fleet result.

The estimates will depend on factors including routes, charging infrastructure, electricity prices, maintenance and battery durability.

“Electrifying a fleet at this scale requires vehicles that can perform the work our robust operations demand while also delivering meaningful economic benefits,” FedEx executive Paul Melander said in comments reported by FreightWaves. Melander serves on Harbinger's board.

FedEx is both a customer and investor. A Nov. 26, 2025 Axios report said FedEx ordered 53 Harbinger vehicles in November 2025, co-led the startup's $160 million Series C and that Harbinger had raised $358 million.

That Axios report also said Harbinger was weighing a potential IPO and working with Goldman Sachs. It described an earlier consideration rather than a confirmed IPO process or completed offering.

By the numbers

  • $300 million-plus - value Harbinger assigned to the FedEx order
  • 2,000 trucks - all-electric medium-duty vehicles planned for FedEx operations
  • $20,000 per truck annually - Harbinger's estimated fuel-cost reduction

Yes, but: The $20,000-per-truck figure is a company estimate. Actual savings could vary based on routes, charging, electricity prices, maintenance and battery durability.

What's next: Harbinger plans to build and deliver the full fleet by Dec. 31, 2027.
