U.S. stock futures were little changed as traders awaited July PPI due Thursday morning.

Why it matters: The inflation print is an early read on pipeline pricing and can shift expectations for Federal Reserve policy. It also matters for Treasury yields and rate-sensitive sectors in equities.

  • CNBC reported Aug. 12 that U.S. stock futures were little changed ahead of July Producer Price Index data.
  • The Bureau of Labor Statistics scheduled the July 2026 PPI release for Aug. 13 at 8:30 a.m. ET.
  • AP and Kiplinger both flagged July PPI as one of the key inflation updates on Wall Street's calendar this week.
  • The BLS says PPI measures the average change over time in the selling prices received by domestic producers for their output.

Traders are waiting for the next inflation checkpoint. CNBC reported Tuesday that U.S. stock futures were little changed as markets looked ahead to July Producer Price Index data, due Thursday morning. CNBC's market update said the July reading was set for release at 8:30 a.m. ET.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has the release on its schedule for Aug. 13, 2026. The agency says the Producer Price Index measures the average change over time in the selling prices received by domestic producers for their output. That makes PPI one of the earliest signals of pipeline inflation.

Independent previews from AP and Kiplinger also flagged July PPI as a central item on the week's U.S. economic calendar.

For markets, the read matters because inflation data can move expectations for Fed policy, Treasury yields and rate-sensitive equities before the market opens.

By the numbers

  • 2026-08-13 - Scheduled release date for July Producer Price Index data.
  • 8:30 a.m. ET - The time the BLS set for the PPI release.
  • 2026-08-12 - The date CNBC said futures were little changed ahead of the report.

Yes, but: PPI is a premarket inflation read, but it is only one data point and does not by itself determine Fed policy.

What's next: The Bureau of Labor Statistics is scheduled to release July 2026 PPI on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 8:30 a.m. ET.
