Google is broadening its education pitch with student tools across Search and Gemini. The announcement centers on two things: a free AI Pro student offer for eligible U.S. college students and new study features aimed at helping students work through class material.
On Google’s student landing page, the company says eligible U.S. college students ages 18-24 can redeem a free Google AI Pro student plan through Dec. 31, 2026. Google says the offer includes higher usage limits and study-oriented features that can turn uploaded syllabi, lecture notes and course materials into personalized study guides, quizzes and summaries grounded in a student’s own materials. Google also says Guided Learning in Gemini is meant to help users work through topics step by step rather than just receiving direct answers. In Google Workspace, higher-education students who are 18 or older can create personal class notebooks from the Gemini tab in Classroom, with outputs including study guides, flashcards, Audio Overviews, Video Overviews and diagrams, according to Google’s Classroom documentation.
The move comes as OpenAI pushes a similar education angle. OpenAI says ChatGPT Study Mode is designed to help users build a deeper understanding of a topic, and it is available across plans on web, iOS and Android. Google is now making a more explicit student offer around Gemini while trying to show it can support both homework help and deeper study workflows.
