The company’s careers site says it employs almost 40,000 people globally, which puts the planned reduction at roughly one-tenth of its workforce.
Tariff exposure adds another layer. In a May 2025 letter to Parliament, the UK government said a U.S.-UK trade agreement would reduce U.S. tariffs on UK car exports from 25% to 10% for a quota of 100,000 vehicles, and specifically noted JLR’s exposure to those tariffs.
