Roblox said creators will soon be able to ship games outside the Roblox platform.

Why it matters: The move could loosen Roblox’s control over creation and distribution while expanding creators’ reach. It also raises questions about monetization, identity, moderation and how much of the Roblox economy can travel off-platform.

  • Roblox announced the new direction at its Developers Conference on Sept. 11, 2026.
  • Creators will be able to make games available as standalone apps on mobile, PC and consoles, with browser play via link by year-end.
  • Its Build AI creation tool is expanding from New Zealand to Serbia and Singapore, with desktop access and a larger asset library.
  • Roblox says creators have earned more than $5 billion since 2013, including $1.7 billion in the last 12 months.

Roblox is broadening its AI creation push and signaling a bigger shift in how games can be distributed. At the company’s Roblox Developers Conference on Sept. 11, 2026, it said creators will be able to make games available as standalone apps on mobile, PC and consoles, with browser play via link by year-end, according to TechCrunch’s report.

The company has already been building toward AI-assisted creation. Roblox’s documentation says Build is a mobile-first AI game-creation tool that turns text prompts into playable, publishable Roblox games, and its July 16, 2026 newsroom post said the tool was launching in the Roblox mobile app. The Sept. 11 announcement extends that effort with desktop access, a new asset library, iterative control and a later prompt-based scene-generation feature that will also reach Roblox Studio.

Roblox also said Build is expanding from New Zealand to Serbia and Singapore. The company added other creator-facing features too, including expanded NPC capabilities, offline mode, a Friends chat tab that follows players across games, improved discovery, 2D game creation support and monetization products called Roblox Wallet and a planned Roblox Card.

The distribution move appears especially important. Roblox has long positioned itself as a cross-device platform, and its investor materials show it already supports publishing across iOS, Android, PC, Mac, Xbox, PlayStation and VR hardware. The new standalone-app direction pushes that idea beyond the Roblox client itself, potentially changing how creators build, reach players and earn money.

Roblox said creators have earned more than $5 billion on the platform since 2013, including $1.7 billion in the last 12 months, underscoring the size of the ecosystem it is now trying to extend.

By the numbers

  • $5 billion - creator earnings on Roblox since 2013, according to the company.
  • $1.7 billion - creator earnings in the last 12 months, per Roblox’s RDC presentation as reported by TechCrunch.
  • Sept. 11, 2026 - date of the RDC announcement.

Yes, but: The exact technical setup for standalone exports, revenue splits and moderation rules outside Roblox are not yet clear from the materials reviewed.

What's next: Roblox said browser play via link should arrive by year-end. It also said the prompt-based scene-generation feature will come later and extend to Roblox Studio.
