Shein launched its Hong Kong IPO, targeting about US$26.8 billion in value.

Why it matters: The deal is one of the biggest consumer listings in years and a key read on IPO appetite. It also shows how regulatory pressure and slower growth have reset expectations for a closely watched China-linked retailer.

  • Shein launched its Hong Kong IPO on Aug. 24, 2026, with shares due to start trading Sept. 1.
  • The company is targeting a valuation of about HK$210 billion, or roughly US$26.8 billion, at the top end of the range.
  • Shein is seeking to raise up to about US$1.77 billion in the offering.
  • Reuters said earlier this month Shein had been targeting US$30 billion to US$40 billion before the range was cut.

Shein has opened its Hong Kong listing as it seeks to trade publicly for the first time after years of abandoned attempts in the U.S. and U.K. The fast-fashion retailer is aiming for a valuation of about HK$210 billion, or roughly US$26.8 billion, with shares expected to begin trading on Sept. 1. The current target is well below the roughly US$30 billion to US$40 billion valuation Shein had previously been pursuing, and far from the nearly US$100 billion private-market peak it reached in 2022. The company is also seeking to raise up to about US$1.77 billion in the deal. Reuters

Shein said in its Hong Kong prospectus that it posted a first-quarter 2026 net loss of US$99 million, after slower sales and a one-time accounting charge. It also warned that the end of the U.S. de minimis exemption hurt its business model, and said similar moves in the EU could have comparable or greater effects. Reuters

The prospectus said Shein had 281 million active customers by the end of March 2026. The company is headquartered in Singapore and founded in China, making the Hong Kong deal a closely watched test of investor appetite for a global consumer name with deep U.S.-China exposure.

By the numbers

  • US$26.8 billion - Shein's target valuation at the top end of the Hong Kong IPO range
  • US$1.77 billion - amount Shein is seeking to raise in the offering
  • 281 million - active customers reported by the end of March 2026

Yes, but: The valuation is still far below Shein's 2022 private-market peak, underscoring how slower growth and policy pressure have changed the story.

What's next: Shein shares are due to start trading in Hong Kong on Sept. 1, 2026.
