Toyota is recalling about 655,000 Camrys after a display error can blank safety indicators.

Why it matters: The defect can keep turn signals, hazard lights and other warnings from working when drivers start the car. That raises safety risk for consumers and adds another quality-control issue for Toyota.

  • About 655,000 Camry vehicles are being recalled globally because of a display error.
  • More than 508,000 of the recalled vehicles are in the United States, AP reported citing Toyota and NHTSA documents.
  • The affected U.S. vehicles are model-year 2025-2026 Camry Hybrids with a 7-inch display combination meter.
  • Toyota says owner letters in the U.S. start mailing Sept. 21, 2026, and the fix will be a free dealer software update.

Toyota is recalling about 655,000 Camry vehicles worldwide because a display error can cause the combination meter to go blank at startup, deactivating safety indicators such as turn signals and hazard lights, according to AP.

More than 508,000 of the recalled vehicles are in the U.S., and the affected models are 2025-2026 Camry Hybrids equipped with a 7-inch display combination meter, AP reported. The malfunction can also prevent certain warnings from functioning, including seat-belt reminders and a key-left-in-ignition buzzer.

NHTSA documents cited by AP say the display failures increase crash risk because drivers may not see telltale indicators and other road users may not be able to recognize a driver’s intent to change direction or indicate a hazard. Toyota said the affected vehicles were produced between December 2023 and July 2026 at plants in the U.S., Japan and Thailand.

Owner notification letters in the U.S. are scheduled to begin mailing on Sept. 21, 2026, with completion expected by early October. The repair will be a free software update at a dealer.
