Trump's October filing lists 517 securities transactions made during August 2026.

Why it matters: The report puts presidential holdings alongside policy timing, but does not show who selected the trades or whether Trump directed them. It also does not establish an illegal conflict, quid pro quo or personal involvement in the purchases.

  • Trump reported buying $5 million to $25 million of Meta Platforms stock on August 21, 2026.
  • He reported buying $1 million to $5 million of SpaceX senior unsecured debt on August 18.
  • Trump signed a commercial-space memorandum on August 20, two days after the reported SpaceX purchase.
  • CNBC estimated the 517 reported securities transactions at $74.3 million to $273.3 million, based on the filing's value ranges.

In an October 8, 2026 disclosure, President Donald Trump reported 517 securities transactions made during August 2026 in an 18-page Periodic Transaction Report, according to CNBC's analysis. The dossier does not include a direct URL to the filed report or an official disclosure-database entry.

The filing reported a Meta Platforms stock purchase on August 21 valued at $5 million to $25 million. It also reported a $1 million to $5 million purchase of SpaceX senior unsecured debt on August 18, according to The Washington Post. The debt reportedly matures in July 2031 and pays 5.35% interest.

On August 20, two days after the reported SpaceX purchase, Trump signed a National Security Presidential Memorandum directing agencies to expand commercial access to launch and reentry infrastructure, expedite permitting and environmental reviews, and favor commercial space transportation for government needs. A White House fact sheet says the policy sets a goal of more than 1,000 U.S. launches and reentries annually by 2030.

The disclosure does not show whether Trump personally selected the securities transactions, whether he knew of the SpaceX purchase when signing the memorandum, or whether the policy was designed to benefit SpaceX. It reports broad value bands rather than exact amounts, prices or share counts.

18 U.S.C. Section 208 states that covered executive-branch officers and employees may not participate personally and substantially in matters in which they have a financial interest. The statute's text alone does not resolve its application to a president, and this filing does not establish a violation. Officials generally must file transaction reports within 30 days of notice and no later than 45 days after a transaction, according to Office of Government Ethics guidance.

By the numbers

  • 517 securities transactions - Number reported in the Periodic Transaction Report for August 2026
  • $74.3 million to $273.3 million - CNBC's aggregate estimate based on the reported value ranges, not an exact total
  • $5 million to $25 million - Reported value of the Meta Platforms stock purchase

Yes, but: The filing uses broad value ranges and does not identify exact amounts, prices, share counts, trade selectors or whether Trump knew about the SpaceX purchase when he signed the memorandum.
