Position Summary

Reporting to the Director for Piano and Keyboard Services, the Piano Technician I plays a vital role in keeping Berklee’s Boston campus sounding its absolute best. Driven by Berklee’s student-centered mission, this role delivers specialized acoustic piano and keyboard services across teaching studios, classrooms, ensemble rooms, and practice spaces. Key Responsibilities

Technical Maintenance & Repair: Execute tuning, voicing, regulation, action refurbishing, and preventative maintenance for acoustic pianos. Assist with digital piano and keyboard maintenance. Install and maintain climate control systems and supervise instrument moves.

Student & Faculty Support: Consult with faculty, staff, and students to troubleshoot instrument issues and provide tailored technical solutions. Maintain instruments in top performance condition across campus spaces.

Cross-Department Collaboration: Partner with Concert Operations, Academic Affairs, Music Production & Engineering, and other divisions to support campus events and daily academic needs.

Data & Operations Management: Maintain accurate daily work logs and coordinate schedules—including occasional nights or weekends—to meet critical academic deadlines.

Professional Growth: Stay informed on emerging music and keyboard technologies, maintain certifications, and participate in ongoing technical and interpersonal training.

Qualifications

Demonstrated experience as a piano technician (Bachelor’s degree preferred).

Piano Technicians Guild Associate Piano Technician Certification preferred.

Solid understanding of music, musical terms, and notation.

Familiarity with electronic tuning software (e.g., Reyburn, Sanderson, TuneLab, Piano Analyzer) and Apple administrative software.

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with a track record of timely problem resolution under deadline pressure.

Ability to work autonomously while fostering a collaborative, supportive workplace culture.
