Its strategic location along major trade and migration routes has made Doolow an important commercial centre and one of the key humanitarian hubs in southern Somalia. Doolow town serves as a gateway for cross-border movement, humanitarian operations, and assistance delivery throughout Gedo Region. The district's economy is primarily based on livestock production, small-scale agriculture along the Dawa River, cross-border trade, and remittances.
